Skin Tightening

Skin tightening procedures are able to tighten and smooth the skin for a healthier, more youthful glow. These procedures promote new collagen growth deep within the skin in order to decrease the appearance of wrinkles and provide an overall refreshed look to the skin.

At the office of Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Steven H. Dayan of Chicago, Illinois, we use two technologies for tightening the skin: Pelleve™ and Harmony®. These two technologies can improve mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles occurring around the eyes and mouth, as well as mild to moderate skin laxity, or sagging. They are a good option for individuals in need of more limited lifting who are not yet ready for a facelift, and for those who have already had a facelift and need a little touch-up.

Pelleve™ and Harmony® are both minimally invasive skin tightening procedures that are performed in the office setting. They do not require anesthesia and involve minimal risk. Treatment times average thirty minutes to one hour depending on the area being treated. It is important to remember that these are progressive treatments. Results are not seen immediately but rather improve with time.

Pelleve™

The Pelleve™ system by Ellman International, Inc, uses radiofrequency energy as opposed to laser energy. During this simple, non-invasive procedure, the radiofrequency device is applied to the treatment area to evenly heat the tissue deep beneath the skin to promote new collagen growth over time. The result is smoother, firmer skin. While there may be some slight swelling or redness for a few hours after treatment, there is no downtime and patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine. Results can be seen four to eight weeks after treatment as the new collagen is produced. For optimal results, a series of two to three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended, followed by maintenance treatments every year or two thereafter.

Harmony®

The Harmony® system by Alma Lasers uses near-infrared pulsed light technology to heat the deepest layers of the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. This improves wrinkles and skin laxity over time. Harmony® can produce moderate results when used alone or it can be combined with Pixel and IPL for more dramatic results.

Dr. Dayan uses the Harmony® system in conjunction with a Laser 360 Skin Rejuvenation Program to improve skin tone, texture, color and laxity. The face, neck, chest and hands are commonly treated areas, though any area of skin showing the signs of aging and photodamage can be treated. There is no downtime following treatment and patients are able to immediately return to work and other normal activities. Results are gradual and occur over time.
