What can I expect following the treatment?
Botulinum toxin, BOTOX® Cosmetic, is an inhibitor of neuromuscular activity. It blocks the communication between the nerve fiber and the muscle preventing contraction and temporally relaxing the muscle. Botulinum toxin is a safe, effective, and proven method for treating fine lines and wrinkles. Its safety is well established, as it has been used therapeutically for over 20 years.
Is Botox® for me?
If you desire a slight improvement in your look or a "cleaning up" of age-related wrinkles, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be for you. It has become a superb option for the patient hesitant to undergo surgery, yet wants to erase the deep creases and furrows of the face. By relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles, you can rid yourself of the heavy tension look or remove a misrepresented, tired and angry appearance. Patients appreciate its subtle improvement and are pleased when their acquaintances are not quite
sure why they look better. Following treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic, you can expect to appear more relaxed and rested. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also commonly used to reduce the heavy vertical creases between the eyebrows, flatten deep forehead wrinkles, and smooth out the crow’s feet area of the eyes. Newer areas that are being treated include the age-defining wrinkles around the mouth, nose and the thick muscle bands of the neck.
When will I see the results and how long will they last?
You can generally expect to see results in 3-5 days, although it may take as long as two weeks. Most people can expect to enjoy the benefits for 3-4 months, and some people will see results lasting up to 6 months.
What is the future of Botox®?
BOTOX® Cosmetic's indication continues to expand. Currently BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to reduce excessive underarm and palm sweating, and is it also being used in adjunction to surgical and laser procedures. Relief from migraine headaches is a new and interesting indication for BOTOX® Cosmetic, as several innovative ideas continue to be developed for BOTOX® Cosmetic use. Its safety and convenience assures it is here to stay.

Dysport®
For years there has been only one option for those seeking a botulinum toxin to help erase wrinkles from the top third of their face, Botox®. Recently though, Medicis has joined the market with its new product, Dysport®. Dysport®, like Botox® can be used to treat the glabellar lines to help create a smoother and more uniform appearance to the forehead. Dr.Dayan was the only physician in Chicago to be involved in Dysport's clinical trials. The introduction of Dysport® to the market means more options for patients and hopefully a lower price point for botulinum with the addition of competition into the marketplace. Time will tell if patients find the effects of Dysport® more satisfying or longer lasting than those of Botox.

Restylane
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all species that is highly attracted to water with an ability to bind to it. In this way, it fills the wrinkles or lips by attracting water to the site and allowing for a soft, supple correction that looks very natural. Most patients appreciate its long-lasting effects, with many experiencing 8 months to a year of correction from a single treatment. Additionally, it has a very low side effect profile. In our experience, a very small percentage of patients will develop bruising or swelling at the treatment site lasting beyond 24 hours. The majority of people treated are thrilled with the results and appreciate the immediate return to their busy schedule. There have been a few reports of hypersensitivity reactions, but because it is so unlikely, the it does not require skin testing of patients.

Collagen
The best candidate for collagen is a physically healthy man or woman who has realistic expectations and is interested in reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles, lines and scars. Collagen injections are typically administered in a surgeon's office-based facility and take less than an hour to complete. The injection itself contains anesthesia and; in most cases, additional anesthesia is not required.

Micropeel
A great deal of enthusiam surrounds the most recent advancements in laser technology. Newer generation Erbium lasers often used to treat teenagers and older individuals with active acne are also being used to improve the appearance of aging skin. The laser ablates the upper layer of skin and stimulates collagen production deeper in the tissues of the skin. Superficial blemishes and brown spots are wiped away and the skin looks fresh, clean and polished. A great advantage of Erbium laser technology is that it
can be adjusted to meet the desires of the patient. Those seeking a more aggressive or deeper treatment can expect to be red for a few days, but those who can not afford the downtime can get a micropeel treatment resulting in a pinkish skin color lasting for less than a day. Those who get the lighter version can expect nice results even after one treatment, but usually undergo a series of treatments (3 to 4) to achieve the optimum results. Following the treatment, the skin is covered with a thin layer of a Vaseline-type
ointment. The next day, make up and regular skin care may resume. Erbium laser treatments can be performed in the office in minutes, and feels comfortable following placement of a topical numbing cream. In addition to its convenience, its appeal is further enhanced by its affordability. While it is still not possible to completely reverse all the effects of aging and sun damage on the skin, we can offer solutions which allow for a great improvement without the downtime or risk found in older methods. For further
information see ABC News clip video on Micropeel.

Rosacea
A chronic acne skin condition, Rosacea has been traditionally managed with topical antibiotics and avoidance of triggering events. Success has been inconsistent and temporary at best. Recent advancements in laser technology have greatly altered and improved the way in which we treat this condition. Today patients can expect less flushing and a prolonged period of improvement following a series of quick laser treatments. These treatments are painless and can be performed in minutes with no subsequent downtime.
Although not a cure for the underlying process, laser treatments greatly enhance the treatment outcome and are a welcome breakthrough for affected patients.

Laser Hair Removal
Melanin pigment within the hair follicle is the target of the laser beam. The marked melanin is only readily available during a portion of the hair growth cycle. At any one time only a percentage of the hairs are in the vulnerable portion of the cycle. Therefore, to effectively reach all the hairs in any area, it will most likely take more than one treatment. The target of the laser beam is melanin which exists in the skin, more so in those of darker skin color or those who have recently tanned. Newer generation
lasers have been designed to safely bypass this skin melanin and to safely and effectively treat patients of all skin types.
Is hair loss permanent?
Some current research is suggesting that in properly selected and treated patients, the hair loss may be permanent. However, long-term studies are pending. Until permanent hair loss can be proven scientifically, the it has limited companies to declaring that lasers can achieve "permanent hair reduction."
As laser technology continues to improve it is becoming increasing clear that laser hair removal is rapidly becoming the best option for permanent reduction. When you consider that the path to permanency requires only a few treatments instead of years the benefits become obvious. To determine if you are proper candidate or to answer more questions about laser hair removal please give us a call.
Depending upon the size and the number of areas being treated, a single laser hair removal session can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours to complete. Though a topical anesthetic may be used for those who are very sensitive to pain, anesthesia is not required in most cases.
There is generally very little downtime associated with laser hair removal and most patients can return to their normal activities right away. Some temporary swelling or reddening may occur which usually clears up within a few days. Sun exposure will need to be limited for a period of time. Patients with dark or tanned skin may not respond well to treatment and may have an increased risk of damage to the skin. Otherwise, there are few complications associated with the procedure.

Dermal Remodeling
Would
you be interested in erasing years of age-defining wrinkles simply by undergoing a twenty-minute painless procedure?
For years, carbon dioxide laser resurfacing and deep chemical peels have been the favored methods for smoothing out superficial irregularities, and relieving the face of its hard earned wrinkles. When performed by an experienced physician, patients can expect predictable and excellent results. However, as many know, there is a prolonged healing period. Many of today's active patients are demanding procedures with comparable efficacy yet without the recovery time.
Therefore, the latest interest in "Dermal remodeling" is being pioneered as a new method to stimulate collagen reformation below the skin's surface without affecting the skin. This process results in a thickening of the healthy skin layers and effacement of superficial wrinkles. Patients undergo a series of treatments (usually between 4-8) performed biweekly or monthly. and improvements in the skin surface are gradual and subtle. Collagen formation may continue for three months following treatments, after which
patients can expect a smoother and healthier appearance to their face.
Although this technology is relatively new, Dr. Dayan has conducted extensive research in this area and is one of a few doctors around the country pioneering newer methods of dermal remodeling. Our results have been impressive and patient satisfaction is high. An example of subjective comments recorded from our last study evaluating the long pulse 1064 nm YAG laser (Lyra) included:
" I am very happy with the results and would highly recommend the treatments."
"Wow! Much improved, especially over time…"
"… my face looks younger."
'Feels like a face lift!"
"The puffiness under my eyes has reduced"
"My pores are substantially reduced"
"It takes ten years off my face"
"My skin looks tighter and more lifted and smoother"
"…the clock seems to be turned back 3-5 years…it is a simple, quick non-invasive procedure that delivers results."
If you have been considering treatment for facial wrinkles but have not been satisfied with superficial facial treatments, and can not afford the downtime associated with traditional methods of resurfacing then Dermal Remodeling may be for you.

Juvederm
Juvederm is an injectable filler which can improve the appearance of deep facial wrinkles, folds, lines, and acne scars, enhance the lips, and contour facial features like the chin and cheeks. Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in all species which is highly attracted to water and has the ability to bind to it. The results are very natural and long-lasting, with the effect remaining for six months or longer.
Dr. Dayan performs the Juvederm injection in his office. Depending on the area being treated, the procedure can take as little as five minutes to as much as thirty minutes to complete. A topical anesthetic, local anesthetic, or nerve block may first be administered for the patient’s comfort before injecting Juvederm directly into the skin with a very fine needle.
Juvederm has very few side effects. Some patients may experience redness or swelling at the injection site which can last for a few days. Nevertheless, work and other normal activities can be resumed right after treatment. Juvederm is a safe and effective injectable that can be used for all skin types and colors and does not require prior testing.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound technology is well accepted and used in physical therapy and geriatric circles for treating musculoskeletal ailments. Additionally, it has reach wide spread acceptance as a method for stimulating wound repair in patients with poorly healing skin wounds. Now there is evidence that this same technology will tighten redundant facial skin and rejuvenate aged facial skin.
At the University of Illinois, Dr. Dayan has participated in and completed a study in the laboratory evaluating the ability of ultrasound assisted technology to extend the delivery of glycolic and salicylic acids deeper into the dermis. Simultaneously, within the clinic, we have treated patients with a combination of salicylic acid and ultrasound treatment. Preliminary results have been very encouraging and promising. Treated patients have reported improved skin texture, reduction in skin laxity, and a youthful
plumping out of the skin. The procedure takes minutes, is painless, and there is no associated downtime. Following treatment, patients may immediately reapply their make-up and return to their social or work activities
In the continuing search for better and more convenient methods of facial rejuvenation, ultrasound may be poised to become a breakthrough modality.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion, a technology of European origin, is designed to rejuvenate and refresh your skin without the extended recovery periods common to laser and deep chemical peel resurfacing.
How does microdermabrasion work?
Microdermabrasion is a method of mechanically exfoliating the upper layers of non-viable skin cells. Abrasive particle are directed out through a handpiece and at the skin. As the handpiece is gently advanced the abrasive particles are guided out and suctioned back into the machine. This combination of abrasion and suction removes upper layers of dead skin and seems to stimulate lower layers of healthy skin to reproduce.
Is Microdermabrasion for me?
Each person is an individual with different needs and desires. However, microdermabrasion is reported to:
 |
Soften fine wrinkles |
 |
Lessen superficial skin discoloration |
 |
Smooth the skin's surface |
 |
Provide the skin with a healthy glow |
When combined with a superficial chemical peel the depth of treatment can be extended providing for a more complete treatment.
What can I expect following the treatment?
One of the greatest benefits to microdermabrasion is that there is little to no downtime. Following treatment you will feel relaxed, your face should feel refreshed and you can expect a healthy glow to your skin.
Bottom line
Are you the right person for microdermabrasion? If you are on the go and want the maximum improvement in your skin's appearance without the extended recovery period associated with other traditional resurfacing methods, microdermabrasion may be the safe and effective answer for you.
