Nasal reshaping or rhinoplasty is one of the most elegant and complex operations we perform in facial plastic surgery. It is a delicate operation of illusion and balance that produces very satisfying results. Too often reduction rhinoplasty techniques that were once popular years ago resulted in patients’ nasal collapse years after their surgery. Patients who were initially happy with their noses are now miserable, plagued with symptoms of nasal blockage, and we are asked to evaluate and treat these patients.
Dr. Dayan is board certified in two disciplines, and is especially qualified to treat the nose via nose surgery. As a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and a Board Certified Otolaryngologist, he has the unique ability to improve the appearance of the nose while simultaneously improving its breathing function. If your septum is deviated or your nasal passages are blocked, we are able to correct your breathing. If this is the case, insurance may reimburse you for the functional portion of the procedure.
During the rhinoplasty consultation, we will discuss in depth your individual desires and goals, as each nose is different and requires a unique approach. Your wishes can be portrayed on a screen for viewing with the aid of a computer. This advancement in technology allows us to alter a computer enhanced image of your nose and face to emulate your final outcome. It also allows us to understand exactly what you are aiming to achieve.

After surgery, most patients go home, but if you prefer, arrangements can be made for you to spend the night in the hospital. Following surgery, you may be pleasantly surprised by how well you feel. Bruising and significant swelling are uncommon, and although many patients take a week off of work or school, some immediately return to their routines. Light exercise is permitted after the first week; however, heavy contact sports are not a good idea for at least four to six weeks. Whether you are repairing a broken
nose or desiring a smaller, more balanced nose, rhinoplasty is a procedure that can give you the chance to make lifetime-lasting improvements in your breathing and your appearance.
The best candidate for rhinoplasty is a physically healthy man or woman who is realistic about their expectations, looking to reshape the nose by reducing or increasing the size, changing the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrowing the span of the nostrils, removing a hump, or changing the angle between the nose and upper lip. Rhinoplasty can also alleviate some breathing problems. The procedure
can take place in a surgeon's office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or a hospital. It is most often performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. Rhinoplasty usually takes between one and two hours to complete, although more complicated procedures may take longer.
